Welcome the Buckman Public House

The New Southeast Portland Restaurant and Bar is Redefining the Traditional Public House and Will Serve as an Anchor for Southeast Portland’s Buckman Neighborhood

Buckman Public House is a new community-focused restaurant and bar located on the ground level of the former Washington High School building. Redefining the traditional public house and serving as an anchor for Southeast Portland’s Buckman neighborhood, The Buckman (the team’s nickname for the new spot) offers a thoughtful and approachable food and beverage menu for all occasions.

Executive Chef Jeff Emerson (Tucci, Cafe Castagna, Ava Gene’s, Alba Osteria) met Chef de Cuisine Ian Wilson (former Chef/Owner of Fenrir) in 2014. Over the last few years Jeff and Ian have built their relationship based on a shared passion for integrity in both the kitchen and in their recipes. Combining memory and nostalgia with the “now factor” of seasonal ingredients, they have come together to create a menu that is soulful, yet contemporary.

The bar program is led by Beau Raymond (professional vibe consultant, business developer and spirits anthropologist) and Pete Maben (bar manager.)  It features several elevated cocktail menus specifically created for each service, as well as 27 taps showcasing a variety of forward-thinking beverages in both proof and no-proof styles. Andrew Young of St. Reginald Parish winery will consult (along with Beau and Jeff) on a wine list that will prominently feature small, independent producers from around the globe.

The expansive space is truly flexible, allowing up to 180 guests inside, with the ability to be personal, private and lively all at once by way of a system of curtains and two kitchens. The outdoor patio looks west onto the Portland cityscape, with a lush, large green space out front. Prominently featuring a brass J-shaped bar, exposed brick, and a flood of natural light, Buckman aims to feel familiar, yet exciting, offering respect for Oregon’s heritage with a welcoming vision for what Portland can, and is, becoming.

Details: Buckman Public House will be open seven days a week for lunch, mid-day dining, dinner, a Monday-Friday happy hour menu and will introduce weekend brunch and a late-night menu in the near future. It is located on the ground level of Washington High School at 1300 SE Stark St. Portland, OR 97214. For complete hours, menus, and details, please visit http://www.buckmanpublichouse.com/
