Golfing With Drew Estate

IMG_6449I can’t think of a better trio: Golf, Cigars and Beer. Ok, maybe you could add a little whisky or bourbon into the mix, but that might make my golf game even worse than it is. On the other hand, a good cigar can enhance golf in a way that some say makes your score nearly inconsequential.

Round 1.

Drew Estate Acid Progeny

Aside from a shot so atrocious it would make Charles Barkley look like Shooter McGavin, my menu began with the Drew Estate Progeny. This sweet little treat was the perfect aperitif to start the day.

Although the draw was on the tighter side, the cool smoke allowed the depth of flavor to shine through. The flavor profile of the Progeny is not catered towards those looking for an in your face type of smoke. Cool, calm and mellow is the mantra repeated with every draw.

IMG_6429The Details:

  • Strength: Medium
  • Shape: Cuban Corona
  • Size: 5 1/2 x 46
  • Country: Nicaragua
  • Wrapper Origin: Mexican
  • Wrapper Leaf: San Andres

The sweetness comes from the Drew Estate Acid infusion process, which is NOT a flavoring, but rather an arduous process of nearly freezing the tobacco, ripping out all of the moisture, and then slowly rehydrating the curing leaves with essential oils and premium natural extracts. While this style may not be up everyone’s alley, the quality and craftsmanship is undeniable.

The Progeny comes to us from our friends at Famous Smoke and the pleasure is all mine. Looking past the tight draw, the flavors and burn is an example of what Drew Estate has built their impeccable reputation on.

If you’re looking for a lighter, sweet smoke that will stand on its own, or pair nicely with a nice glass of bourbon, then here is your champion.

Round 2.

Drew Estate Natural Barcelona

Now let’s get to a more traditional cigar. While there is still the telltale sweetness, but just enough to add to the Esteli tobacco and not overshadow it. The Drew Estate Natural Barcelona showcases the smooth Nicaraguan tobacco with an easy, cool draw and a well constructed wrapper.

The Details

  • Strength: Medium
  • Shape: Robusto
  • Size: 5 x 54
  • Country: Nicaragua
  • Wrapper Origin: Indonesian
  • Wrapper Leaf: Sumatra

The aromatic flavors interweave with the bold Esteli filler creating a smoky sweet cigar that can speak to a wide range of palates. The burn was just on the wrong side of consistent, but the slight coning did little to take away from the balanced flavors, rich draw and overall top tier experience.

Our friends over at Famous Smoke have IMG_6445created a few different Drew Estate Sampler Packs that showcase the brand and its diverse line of offerings. Whether you’re looking for a flavorful dessert cigar to cap off a perfect evening, or a bold, brash stick that will dominate your palate, Drew Estate consistently infuses their uncompromised quality, stunning balance and unparalleled passion into every cigar they produce.

The Natural is tailor-made for those cigar enthusiasts seeking that elusive middle ground between a traditional tobacco-focused smoke and a flavor style on the side of aromatic. A crisp, cold malty amber ale will play a beautiful foil to the earthiness of the Esteli tobacco.

Although the round of golf and these two cigars might be done, the adventures with Drew Estate are far from over. Stay tuned…
