A friendship is a funny thing. You can rarely pinpoint that exact moment where two strangers cross that line separating acquaintances and best friends. Lagavulin 16 and the Padron 1926 seem to have been destined for each other from the beginning. Lagavulin’s elegant smoke imparted from the roasted Islay malt of Scotland complement the richness of the Padron’s Nicaraguan Robusto.
These two steadfast friends have built their brands separately based on quality and craftsmanship, but together they form a force to be reckoned with. Although awards and adjectives describing the pairing could fill an entire Dennis Miller rant, it’s the Padron 1926 we’re here to highlight today. While we spend some time on the Padron 1926, I’ll let Mr. Nick Offerman give you an eloquent introduction to Lagavulin.
Now back to the Padron 1926…
The Nitty Gritty:
- Strength: Full
- Shape: Robusto
- Size: 4 3/4 x 50
- Country: Nicaragua
- Wrapper Color: Maduro
- Wrapper Origin: Nicaraguan
- Wrapper Leaf: Habano
Smoking this cigar is more than an experience, it’s a gift to your senses. Before the fire hits the stick, aromas of fresh coffee and roasted almonds set the tone for the smoke. As flames are introduced, the smoke is flooded with scents of chocolate and espresso.
The draw is easy and light, allowing the flavors of the smoke to come to the forefront. With a flavor profile that has nuances of nutty toffee and roasted coffee beans, it is balanced, substantial and proves with every draw how and why Padron built their impeccable reputation. The rich Maduro wrapper combines with the Nicaraguan tobacco filling each draw with leather and earth.
The burn is even and consistent, adding yet another level of expert craftsmanship to the cigar. As the Padron progressed, the burn level maintained its composure and showed the high quality the Padron rollers use in their Habano wrapper.
The good people over at Famous Smoke provided the Padron 1926 for the review and the cigar could not have shown any better. The Patron 1926 is the perfect gift for someone you like or respect, but we all know gifts are better when they are bought for yourself and who knows you better than you? Celebrate a special occasion, or nothing at all with a cigar that is a cut above the rest.
